One Month Old!

I know that Isaac and Stephanie shared the meaning of Anna's name on their blogs, but I neglected to share it here. We feel it of great importance to choose names with great meaning for our children, and we chose Anna Verity after much (nearly 10 months!) deliberation.

Anna means "gracious", and Verity means "truth".

We chose this name because:

1) the Truth IS Grace! Despite being the worthless, sinful creatures we are, the Holy Perfect God sent His Son to die as payment for our sins... He had grace on us and saved us from eternal death!
2) God's truth (His law) is gracious. In the words of Dr. Greg Bahnsen;

God's law defines my sin and thereby my need for the Savior. Christ has saved me from the guilt and power of sin just because the law of God is so important; it displays the kind of life required by God, and the consequences of disobedience to it cannot be ignored. In being saved from the wrath of God upon law-breakers, I will naturally desire now to keep the formerly transgressed standard of God's law. In that light we can observe that Scripture portrays law and grace as correlative to each other. God's grace operates within the parameters of His law — in justifying His people God does not violate His own justice (Rom. 3:26). And God's law is gracious (Ps. 119:29). The two support each other: the law promotes the fulfillment of God's promise (Rom. 5:20-21), and God's grace works to fulfill the law (Rom. 8:3-4).

I can't believe it's already been a little over three weeks since little Anna was born! There's an interesting mix when a newborn babe arrives on the scene... in one sense we've enjoyed a season of quietness, and in another sense it's been downright crazy around here!

(See? I said it's been crazy at times!)

Isaac and the kids were able to go to his brother's wedding (I missed being able to be there since Anna was so little), we were blessed to be able to attend a not-too-far-away showing of The Mysterious Islands, which we thoroughly enjoyed! We've shown the house a few times, which provided for some fun and interesting memories (thankfully my sister Hannah was here when we showed the house, and she wonderfully helped me get the house ready and take the kids out!), and we got to show Anna off to the rest of Isaac's family for Thanksgiving. Now we're in the process of packing for the Sufficiency of Scripture Conference. We are notoriously heavy packers, so I'm trying to keep it to the bare minimum... though that's proving to be a difficulty due to the chilly forecast! We're looking forward to all of the great teaching and always enjoy the great fellowship!

Anna seems to be settling in to somewhat of a schedule, and she's dearly letting mommy get enough sleep to function normally. She is the darling of the family right now, having assumed the focus of everyone's attentions... her sisters and brother are constantly hovering over her, adjusting blankets, remarking over her cuteness, and asking to hold her. We aren't getting much done otherwise, but that's fine... life will slow down and settle back into a more productive schedule soon enough! We're just enjoying this little life that's come into the world!
