Peaches, Parks and Pictures

Lots and lots (and LOTS) of pictures. (Consider yourself warned!)

The kids and I took a trip to visit my family a couple of weeks ago. My mom is an amazing resource for me, and she taught me how to make strawberry jam last year... I probably could have tried the water bath canning on my own this year, but - when you can be in the presence of a pro, why on earth would you choose not to?  This year, we went to a local peach orchard, Callaham Orchards, collectively bought 5 bushels, and set to canning. We canned sliced peaches, peach sauce, and some addictively yummy peach butter! It's a new favorite.
The kids had a blast at the orchard... there was a little animal farm with goats and chickens, as well as a kids milking station that my little ones spent quite a bit of time at! They're quite convinced that they're milking pro's now!!

3 generations, seamless blend :)

The oh-so-nifty outdoor canning station.
My mom's a genius!

Peach Butter...

The fruits of our labor... well, my fruits anyway.

This past Saturday, we took the kids to Fort Yargo State Park for a little family fun and hiking... the trails there are gorgeous! (At least, the short section we chose to hike was!)

After taking a look around at the fort, we were off in search of a hiking trail. The walking trail at Fort Yargo is 7 miles, and though Davina was positive we could do "the whole 7 miles", we just made a leisurely hike out of it this time. *wink*  We're breaking them in slowly... *grin*
Daddies and daughters-
is there anything sweeter?

There's been lots of other wonderful happenings going on, which I'm "chomping at the bit" to share... but that's another post for another day! (And the way I've been posting, that may be another month... *grin*) Believe me though... it's well worth the wait! *wink*

I definitely agree....why would anyone can by themself when they can do it with their Mom? We brought peaches home from Eastern WA last week and my Mom helped me can mine too! Yum! I'm VERY interested in the peach butter recipe. Are you willing to share it? OH...and LOVE all the pictures of your precious family! :)

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing them. It's so nice to see such joyful faces. I love the "milking cow"! We saw one of those at a children's museum in TX and I thought it was the neatest thing. So much more compliant than our goats I will say!

Have a blessed day ~
